Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken another big step in making travel easier for everyone. They have now allowed electric scooter users to pay using their nol Card, adding this to the list of options available for paying scooter fees. This service is now available across the emirate of Dubai, but only for scooters operated by companies approved by the RTA.

This new move is part of RTA’s plan to improve transportation and make life more convenient for residents and visitors. It also supports Dubai’s goal of becoming a cashless economy. With this addition, the nol Card becomes even more useful, showing its versatility as a payment method across various services in Dubai and the UAE.
Salahuddin AlMarzooqi, Director of Automated Collection Systems at RTA’s Corporate Technology Support Sector, explained how this system works. He said that nol Card payments have been integrated into the electric scooter payment system, especially in important areas like those near public transport stations. This change fits perfectly with RTA’s aim to improve connections for the first and last parts of a journey. By making the nol Card an easy way to pay, the RTA wants to give users a smoother and more efficient experience.
He also shared more details about how users can make these payments. Now, nol Card can be used as a payment option in all the apps of approved scooter operators. Users can buy different kinds of packages—whether it’s hourly, daily, or monthly. They have to link their nol Card using NFC technology on their smartphones. To enjoy this service, users need to download the app of the scooter operator they are using.
The nol Card is already a widely accepted payment method for various modes of transport in Dubai. This includes the metro, buses, trams, and marine transport, as well as taxis, the Nakheel Monorail, and now electric scooters. Beyond transportation, it can also be used for public parking, shopping, and even accessing public facilities like museums and clubs.
To encourage even more people to use public transport, the RTA has introduced special nol packages for different groups. For instance, students can get nol Student Packages, while there are also nol Travel Packages that come with discounts and special offers. These packages cover a wide range of services, such as dining, shopping, entertainment, hotels, and even airlines.
RTA is also working on upgrading the entire nol system. They are moving from the old card-based system to a modern account-based system. This new system follows international standards to ensure that electronic and financial security is as strong as possible. The upgrade will make payment technologies more advanced, improve efficiency, and make better use of the data collected through the system.
The updated system will also allow RTA to offer services that are more personalized for individual users. Some of the new features will include the ability to plan trips, book rides, and pre-pay for services through smart channels. All these improvements aim to make Dubai’s mobility system smarter and more user-friendly.
