During the meeting, the two parties focused on how technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) could be used to make public transportation smarter and safer. By using these technologies, the goal is to improve services for the public, such as making travel safer, more comfortable, and more efficient. The discussion also included using real-time data on traffic and logistics to help reduce traffic jams and make the flow of vehicles smoother.

The RTA shared some of its latest digital initiatives in seven important areas: digital twin technology, the metaverse, robotics, ecosystems, enterprise solutions, AI, data analytics, and IoT. These projects are part of Phase I of the RTA’s Digital Strategy for 2023-2030, which includes 82 projects. The goal of this strategy is to create a flexible, scalable digital system, make transportation fully digital, increase the use of digital services to 95%, empower all employees with digital skills, and create 50 new AI applications.

Mohammed Al Mudharreb, the CEO of the Corporate Technology Support Services Sector at RTA, emphasized the importance of digital innovation in shaping the future of transportation in Dubai. He said, “By using the power of 5G for real-time traffic management, applying AI to improve travel experiences, and using IoT to build safer infrastructure, we can push the limits of what’s possible and become leaders in smart transport systems.”

He also mentioned that by using these advanced technologies, they aim to build an efficient, smart, and sustainable transport system that will benefit everyone in the community and connect different parts of the city seamlessly.

Abdullah Al Ahmad, the Acting Senior Vice President for Government Sales and Key Accounts at e& UAE, added that the digital technologies developed by e& UAE play a key role in driving the digital transformation in transportation. He said, “We are committed to providing a flexible and advanced digital infrastructure that helps improve the efficiency of transportation services. Through our 5G networks, AI, and IoT, we aim to enhance Dubai’s smart city vision.”

During the workshop, participants shared several ideas for future projects. These ideas included creating Mobility-as-a-Service platforms, using 5G technology in public transport, connecting vehicles through IoT, and including communication towers in smart city infrastructure to further improve transportation and connectivity.

The meeting marked a significant step in Dubai’s efforts to become a leader in smart transportation, where technology and innovation will work together to make the city’s transport system smarter and more efficient for everyone.
