Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed a major round of preventive maintenance on 14 significant roads and 9 major intersections in the third quarter of 2024. This initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing strategy to improve the efficiency, safety, and longevity of Dubai's road network, ensuring smooth traffic flow and enhancing the safety of road users across the city.

The roads and intersections targeted for maintenance include some of the most crucial and high-traffic routes in Dubai, such as Dubai-Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Rebat Street, Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Al Ittihad Street, Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street, Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, Al Musalla Street, Al Satwa Street, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, Al Marabea’ Street, and Zabeel 1 Street. The maintenance work, which was tailored to the varying conditions of different types of roads, included highways, arterial roads, internal roads, and streets in both residential and commercial areas across Dubai.
RTA’s efforts during this maintenance drive were focused on ensuring that the infrastructure is durable and efficient, addressing any damage caused by natural wear and tear and improving the overall condition of the roads. Key activities included renewing pavement layers where necessary, repaving areas with damaged asphalt or tiles, and carrying out general repairs to enhance the structural integrity of the roads. These maintenance activities were carried out in six residential areas and one commercial district across the city.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, explained that maintaining the sustainability of Dubai’s infrastructure is a top priority. “RTA is committed to the safety of all road users and the continued improvement of Dubai’s transport network. Our focus on preventive maintenance ensures that the roads remain safe, efficient, and capable of supporting the city's ongoing urban growth and development. In Q3 2024, we took the necessary steps to renew and repair key roads, minimizing disruption and improving the driving experience for all residents and visitors.”
Al Banna highlighted RTA’s use of cutting-edge technology in the maintenance process. “We are leveraging smart technologies to enhance the quality and efficiency of our maintenance work. These technologies allow us to accurately monitor the condition of road facilities and predict when repairs or replacements will be needed. By employing these technologies, we can proactively address issues before they escalate, ensuring the road network remains in top condition over the long term.”
RTA’s commitment to maintaining Dubai’s road infrastructure is closely tied to its broader goals for the city. By ensuring the structural integrity and operational efficiency of its roads, RTA is supporting Dubai’s rapid urbanization and economic growth. Furthermore, the initiative is aligned with the city’s vision of becoming a global leader in sustainable, seamless mobility.
In addition to enhancing road safety, RTA has been particularly focused on minimizing traffic disruptions during maintenance activities. By adopting advanced traffic management strategies and ensuring that maintenance work takes place with minimal impact on traffic, RTA aims to reduce congestion and ensure smooth travel for motorists during the process.
RTA’s preventive maintenance efforts for Q3 2024 are a testament to its dedication to maintaining world-class infrastructure, ensuring the safety of residents, and supporting Dubai’s development as a global metropolis.
