Pakistan’s security forces eliminated 15 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists in two major intelligence-based operations carried out across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military confirmed on Tuesday. The swift actions, conducted on November 15 and 16, mark another significant push to curb rising militancy along the country’s northwestern belt.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the first operation took place in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan, where 10 TTP militants were killed. Among them was the group’s “key ringleader,” Alam Mehsud, a figure believed to be behind multiple attacks targeting security forces and civilians in the region. His elimination is being viewed as a major blow to the group’s operational network.

In a separate intelligence-led strike in Datta Khel, North Waziristan, security forces neutralised five more terrorists believed to be linked with recent cross-border and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks. The military said weapons, ammunition, and tactical communication equipment were recovered from the hideouts.

Officials stated that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to disrupt TTP’s attempts to reorganise along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The resurgence of the group in recent months has raised concerns over regional security, prompting intensified counter-terror action.

Security analysts say the back-to-back operations highlight Pakistan’s renewed focus on dismantling militant networks before winter, a period when cross-border movement traditionally increases. The killing of a key commander like Alam Mehsud could slow down TTP’s planning and recruitment activities in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Local residents reported heightened security around both districts after the operations, as forces carried out thorough area clearance to prevent retaliatory attacks.

The ISPR reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism “in all its forms” and ensuring peace in the region.

As militancy once again becomes a pressing national concern, these operations signal the state’s determination to prevent TTP militants from gaining ground—and to reinforce stability in areas long affected by insurgency.
