OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has started introducing new smart programs, called agents, that can help people do work. He said these agents will soon be able to do many tasks that normal software engineers usually handle after a few years of experience. Altman explained this in a recent blog post, saying that while these agents can finish work in a few days, they still need humans to guide them. These agents can’t come up with big, creative ideas on their own.

In the future, Altman believes these agents will be used in many jobs. He thinks there could be millions of them working together to help people. He compared this to how the invention of the transistor changed technology, and now it is something we use every day without thinking about it.
Altman also mentioned that soon, smart computers might be able to think and solve problems like humans. He said that in the next 10 years, these computers could help people do more things than even the most successful people today.
However, Altman is worried about how these changes might affect jobs. He is concerned that companies might get too much power and that workers could be left behind. He suggested finding ways to make sure everyone can benefit from new technology. He even thought about giving everyone more chances to use these smart systems, even though it might sound unusual.
Meta, a big tech company, has also said it will use these smart programs to replace engineers who write code. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said that soon, these programs will do the work that mid-level engineers do, such as writing code. This could change the way technology is made.
Google is already using these smart programs to help write code. Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, said that 25% of the new code at Google is now made by these systems, with human workers checking the final product.
Even though companies say humans won’t lose all their jobs, it’s unclear how many people will be affected. These companies are already letting go of some workers to save money or improve performance. If these smart programs get better, they might replace even more workers, especially those who write code. This shows that people might need to learn new skills to keep their jobs in big companies.
These changes in technology could really change the way we work in the future. While this technology has a lot of good potential, we need to make sure it helps everyone and doesn’t create problems for workers.
