BRICS was formed in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China. South Africa joined in 2010. The goal of the group was to challenge the power of the G7, which is made up of the richest countries in the world.
In the last year, BRICS added new countries like Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Saudi Arabia has also been invited. Other countries, such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia, have asked to join, and there are many others who are interested.
Nigeria is now the ninth partner country in BRICS. The country joins others like Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa and has a strong economy. It shares many goals with the BRICS countries.
Nigeria has worked hard to build strong connections with other developing countries and to support changes in the way the world is managed. Brazil, as the leader of BRICS, believes that Nigeria’s involvement will help with these goals.
This move is important for Nigeria because it gives the country more influence in global decisions. BRICS is also focusing on creating a new payment system that does not rely on the U.S. dollar, which would change how the world does business.
As more countries like Nigeria join BRICS, the group becomes stronger and has more power to shape the future.
