New Zealand secured a vital win in the fourth T20 International against India, triumphing by 50 runs in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday and marking their first success in the five-match series.
Starting off strongly, New Zealand’s openers, Tim Seifert and Devon Conway, forged an impressive 100-run partnership. Seifert’s aggressive innings of 62 runs and Conway’s solid contribution of 44 helped set a challenging target.
India found some momentum when Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Conway in the ninth over, prompting a slight shift in the game. Jasprit Bumrah quickly followed suit with a sharp catch to dismiss Rachin Ravindra, and Arshdeep Singh ended Seifert’s explosive batting display after just 36 balls. Kuldeep continued his form by claiming Glenn Phillips for 24 runs.
Despite encountering some middle-order challenges, New Zealand finished their innings strongly with Daryl Mitchell’s powerful 39 off just 18 deliveries, bringing their total to a formidable 215 for 7.
In response, India faced difficulties while chasing the uphill target. With the series sealed already, there were a few changes to the lineup, including resting Ishan Kishan due to a minor injury. The altered batting order struggled, highlighted by Abhishek Sharma's dismissal on the very first ball and captain Suryakumar Yadav’s quick exit.
Rinku Singh tried to stabilize the situation with a solid 39 runs, but regular wickets kept the pressure on the Indian side. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was instrumental with the ball, bagging 3 wickets for just 26 runs, containing India effectively in the middle overs.
Shivam Dube exhibited late-game prowess with a spectacular 65 off 23 deliveries, hitting seven sixes that temporarily reignited India’s hopes. However, his unexpected run-out due to a deflection off Matt Henry was a turning point. Ultimately, India was bowled out for 165 runs in just 18.4 overs.
India still maintains a 3-1 lead in the series, with the final T20I scheduled for Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram.
