The agreement outlines the support for ongoing excavation efforts through remote sensing satellite technology and advanced geophysical survey techniques, developed by scientists and researchers at Khalifa University. These technologies will help uncover buried structures, tombs, and remains at the Saruq Al Hadid and Al Ashoosh sites. Additionally, advanced processing techniques will be employed to create three-dimensional models of archaeological features, allowing researchers to place them within their historical and environmental contexts.
During the MoU signing ceremony, Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, met with the Khalifa University delegation, which included Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President; Dr. Fahd Al Maskari, Director of the Executive Vice President's Office; and Associate Professor Dr. Khaled Al Awadi. The meeting, held at the Dubai Culture headquarters, was also attended by Muna Faisal Algurg, CEO of the Culture and Heritage Sector at Dubai Culture, and Engineer Bader Mohammed Al Ali, Director of the Antiquities Department at the Authority. Discussions focused on enhancing long-term cooperation in scientific research and modern archaeological technologies.
Muna Faisal Algurg emphasized the importance of collaborating with national academic and research institutions, highlighting the rich knowledge provided by Dubai's archaeological sites. She noted that the Saruq Al Hadid and Al Ashoosh sites offer invaluable insights for researchers studying Dubai's connections with other civilizations. Algurg stated, "The MoU with Khalifa University represents a significant step in showcasing the importance of Dubai's archaeological sites. Partnering with a prestigious academic institution enhances our efforts to uncover the rich history of these sites. Utilizing advanced technologies allows us to conduct further excavation work, contributing to additional scientific research and reinforcing Dubai's position on the global heritage map."
Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "We are delighted to work with Dubai Culture to expand the scientific exploration of ancient archaeological knowledge in the UAE. Our researchers in the Earth Sciences Department are setting benchmarks in national and regional remote sensing capabilities, significantly impacting the future of archaeological studies. By combining our expertise in intelligent systems, machine learning, and remote sensing with Dubai Culture's deep understanding of archaeological excavations, especially at the Saruq Al Hadid and Al Ashoosh sites, we aim to preserve and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage."
