*Squid Game* became very popular in 2021. It tells the story of people who compete in dangerous games to win money and get rid of their debts. The show became Netflix’s most-watched series, with 142 million households watching it in just the first month.
This success helped Netflix gain 19 million new subscribers in one quarter, making the total number of subscribers almost 302 million. In the final season, Lee Jung-jae will return as Seong Gi-hun, the main character, who is trying to stop the deadly games from happening again.
Along with *Squid Game*, two other big shows are also coming back. *Stranger Things* will return for its fifth and final season, and *Wednesday*, about the Addams Family, will have its second season.
During the event, there were also updates on other projects. The Duffer brothers, creators of *Stranger Things*, said they filmed over 650 hours of footage for the final season. Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, said Netflix wants to offer many different shows for everyone.
New movies are also coming soon, like *Frankenstein*, directed by Guillermo del Toro. Ben Affleck will star in a crime series called *RIP*. Comedian John Mulaney will also return with his live late-night show, *Everybody's Live with John Mulaney*.
Tina Fey will turn the 1981 romantic movie *The Four Seasons* into a new Netflix series with stars like Steve Carell.
With so many exciting shows and movies, Netflix has a lot in store for its viewers this year.
