Newcastle had taken the lead in the first half, with Jacob Murphy scoring the opening goal. However, Fulham fought back in the second half, and in the 61st minute, they managed to equalize. A shot by Raul Jimenez took a deflection off Murphy and went into the net past Newcastle’s goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, leveling the score at 1-1.
In the first half, Newcastle had a few chances to increase their lead. Sandro Tonali hit the woodwork with a shot, and Alexander Isak’s attempt in the 75th minute also hit the crossbar. These missed opportunities came back to haunt them when Fulham scored their winning goal.
In the 82nd minute, Muniz made the most of a free kick from Andreas Pereira. He got a touch at the near post, directing the ball past Dubravka and giving Fulham the lead. This goal was enough to secure a crucial win for Fulham, moving them up to ninth place in the league standings with 36 points. They are now five points behind Newcastle, who remain in fifth place, despite the loss.
Newcastle had a disjointed performance at home, and their failure to convert chances, including two shots hitting the woodwork, cost them dearly in this match.
