Disney Studios, renowned for its reimagining of classic tales, has released its latest masterpiece, Mufasa: The Lion King, in theaters today. The film, a prequel to the 2019 live-action adaptation of The Lion King, explores the journey of Mufasa from a lost cub to the proud king of the Pride Lands.
The movie, available in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu, marks a significant milestone for Indian audiences, featuring Shah Rukh Khan as the voice of Mufasa and his youngest son, Abram Khan, making his debut as the voice of young Mufasa. Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan’s elder son, lends his voice to Simba, making the Hindi version particularly special.
Theatrical Release and Reception
Mufasa: The Lion King premiered in the U.S. on December 9, 2024, and received an overwhelming response from audiences and critics alike. Indian audiences can now experience the grandeur of the Pride Lands starting today, December 20, 2024.
OTT Release and Streaming Platforms
The film, produced by Disney Studios, will stream on Disney+Hotstar, following the recent merger of Disney+Hotstar and JioCinema. The movie is expected to be available on the unified platform by late March 2025, three months after its theatrical release. Fans might also have the option to digitally purchase or rent the film as early as February 2025.
The Story and Trailer Highlights
The film narrates Mufasa’s early life and his relationship with his brother Scar, formerly known as Taka. The story is told through the perspective of Rafiki, the wise baboon, who reveals unknown aspects of Mufasa’s struggles and triumphs.
The Hindi trailer for the film has garnered over 8 million views, creating significant buzz, thanks to the voices of Shah Rukh Khan and his sons.
