Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw didn’t agree with Zuckerberg’s comments. He posted on X saying that Zuckerberg’s claim was false. He pointed out that the 2024 Indian elections had over 640 million voters and that the people trusted Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Vaishnaw also mentioned that India helped many people during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as giving free food to 800 million people, providing billions of vaccines, and sending aid to other countries.
Vaishnaw said Modi’s win in 2024 showed that the people of India trusted the government. He added that India is growing and doing well.
Meta’s Shivanth Thukral replied to Vaishnaw’s post. Thukral apologized for Zuckerberg’s statement and explained that while some countries had governments lose elections in 2024, this didn’t happen in India. He also said that India is an important country for Meta, and the company is excited to work with India in the future.
Zuckerberg made these comments during an interview with Joe Rogan. He said that COVID-19 made people lose trust in many governments and that governments, including India’s, lost elections in 2024. However, both Vaishnaw and Meta cleared up the misunderstanding, showing that India’s situation was different.
Meta’s apology shows that they respect India and its people.
