Medical Helicopter Crash in Tennessee Kills One Injures Two

A medical helicopter crash in Tennessee has claimed the life of one crew member and left two others critically injured on Saturday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred east of Nashville, around 19 kilometers south of the Music City Executive Airport, authorities confirmed.

The Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter, an Airbus EC130T2 manufactured in 2015, went down in a rural field between Lebanon and Gallatin at approximately 1:45 p.m. No patients were on board at the time of the crash.

According to officials from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, emergency teams quickly responded to the scene, where they found one crew member dead and two others severely injured. Both survivors were airlifted to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville and are receiving critical care.

The helicopter had taken off from the Sumner County Emergency Operations Centre at 1:33 p.m. and was airborne for about eight minutes before crashing, as per data from flight tracking websites FlightAware and Flightradar24.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Initial reports indicate no distress calls were made before the aircraft went down.

In an official statement, Vanderbilt LifeFlight expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying, “Our hearts and deepest sympathies are with our LifeFlight colleagues, their families, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The Vanderbilt LifeFlight program has served Tennessee for decades, providing rapid emergency medical transport across the state. Saturday’s crash marks a somber moment for the medical aviation community, which continues to operate under challenging and high-risk conditions to save lives.
