North Carolina’s basketball team has suffered a setback as their captain, Seth Trimble, broke a bone in his left forearm during a practice session on Sunday. The 6-foot-3 guard, who recently led his team to victory over Kansas, will now be sidelined as he recovers. The school confirmed that Trimble will have surgery this week to repair the injury.
According to the team’s medical staff, Trimble’s surgery is expected to take place within the next few days. The doctors will decide his recovery time after the operation. North Carolina officials have not yet provided a specific date for his return, but they are hopeful he will rejoin the lineup later this season.
UNC head coach Hubert Davis shared his sadness about the situation. “So sad for Seth,” he said in a statement. “He’s such a great kid and teammate and has worked so hard for his senior year. He loves being a Tar Heel, and we love him. The good news is he will be back at some point this year, and I know he will continue to be a great leader for us until he can get back in the lineup.”
Before the injury, Trimble had started the 2025 season in great form. He was one of the top performers in North Carolina’s comeback win over No. 19 Kansas, scoring 17 points and collecting eight rebounds in the 87–74 victory. His efforts were key in helping the Tar Heels maintain their early season momentum.
Trimble’s journey with North Carolina has been built on patience and dedication. Over his first two seasons, he played in 68 games but started only three. Instead of transferring or giving up, he kept improving his game and earned a starting spot last year. In the 2024–25 season, he averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as the Tar Heels reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
So far this season, Trimble had been performing strongly. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in two games. He also played 30 minutes per match, showing his growing role as a leader and playmaker for the Tar Heels. In their earlier loss to top-ranked Kansas on November 8, 2024, Trimble scored 19 points, demonstrating his consistency and fighting spirit.
With Trimble sidelined, North Carolina will have to adjust its lineup and rely on other guards to step up. His absence will be felt both on and off the court, as Trimble is known for his leadership and energy. The Tar Heels will continue their five-game homestand, hosting Radford (2–0) on November 11.
While the injury is disappointing, Trimble’s recovery outlook is positive. His coaches, teammates, and fans are confident that he will return stronger. For now, he will focus on healing and supporting his team from the sidelines. As coach Davis mentioned, his leadership and positive attitude will continue to inspire the Tar Heels throughout the season.
