His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), inaugurated the 38th edition of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) World Congress of Sports Medicine today at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event, which runs until October 27, has attracted global attention, drawing key figures from the fields of sports medicine and athletic care.

The grand opening saw the attendance of prominent leaders, including Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC), and Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al-Sharqi, Chairman of the UAE Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, alongside several dignitaries, sports experts, and public figures.

The Congress is held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the UAE NOC. It is organized by the UAE NOC, represented by the Sports Medicine Committee, in collaboration with partners such as the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the Emirates Physiotherapy Society, and the Emirates Society of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

This four-day event is recognized as one of the leading platforms in sports medicine globally, focusing on advancing athletes' physical and mental well-being. With participants from over 70 countries, the Congress has drawn specialists across orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, sports rehabilitation, nutrition, psychology, and biomechanics, making it a hub for exchanging ideas and sharing breakthroughs in medical care for athletes.

During his opening remarks, HH Sheikh Mansoor expressed gratitude to the Scientific Committee for curating discussions on topics critical to athletes' health. He acknowledged the Congress’s pivotal role in the evolution of sports medicine and its contribution to enhancing the knowledge and skills of practitioners worldwide.

"Our nation’s ability to host such significant events in sports sciences reflects the trust and confidence the global community places in the UAE. It also demonstrates our unwavering commitment to achieving the highest standards of professionalism in organizing world-class events," Sheikh Mansoor said.

He further added, “The level of participation we have seen at this Congress is outstanding. Global experts are sharing invaluable insights, continuing the proud legacy of the International Federation of Sports Medicine, which began its journey nearly a century ago during the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.”

The keynote address at the event was delivered by Dr. Hashel Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the UAE NOC’s Sports Medicine Committee. He emphasized the UAE’s dedication to advancing sports medicine, in alignment with the objectives set forth in the National Sports Strategy 2031.

“The UAE NOC is privileged to host the World Congress of Sports Medicine for the first time in the UAE, a testament to the nation’s growing reputation as a destination for prestigious events,” Dr. Al Tunaiji said. “This year, we are introducing the Global Alliance Day for the Promotion of Physical Activity, showcasing our commitment not only to athletes' well-being but also to the promotion of active lifestyles across all communities.”

Dr. Fabio Pigozzi, President of FIMS, addressed the audience, highlighting the growing impact of sports medicine in both recreational and professional sports. “The presence of delegations from 118 national associations and committees, alongside global specialists, reflects our shared goal of improving athletes' health, enhancing recovery processes, and promoting exercise to prevent diseases,” Dr. Pigozzi said.

Following the opening ceremony, Sheikh Mansoor toured the accompanying exhibition, which features the latest developments in sports medicine technology. He was briefed on innovative solutions used in sports injury management, including high-tech equipment designed to predict health risks, monitor athletes’ performance, and accelerate recovery.

The exhibition also showcased advanced rehabilitation tools and medical devices that provide accurate data on physical and mental readiness, ensuring athletes are safely reintroduced to competition after injuries. Sheikh Mansoor commended the efforts of the participating institutions and private entities for their role in elevating sports healthcare.

The first day of the Congress included a high-profile panel discussion titled "The Future of Sports Medicine and Sciences in the GCC," moderated by Dr. Abdulla Al Rahoomi and Dr. Murat Dalkilinc. Panelists from across the region, including experts from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, shared insights on regional advancements in sports medicine.

A thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Willem Van Mechelen from the Netherlands addressed the negative impact of physical inactivity, emphasizing the importance of self-regulation and personal responsibility in promoting healthy lifestyles.

The program also included specialized workshops focusing on rehabilitation techniques, imaging technologies, and care for athletes with special needs, particularly in preparation for the Paralympic Games.

Throughout the Congress, participants will engage in 16 sessions led by 130 expert speakers, covering topics such as sports science, physical performance, and innovative recovery techniques. Discussions will explore the use of technology and artificial intelligence in sports, training load management, and methods to reduce injury risks.

A significant session dedicated to the International Alliance for Promoting Physical Activity will highlight the importance of physical exercise in preventing chronic diseases and fostering a healthier society. The Congress will also feature 304 research papers and participation from more than 30 supporting organizations.

As the Congress progresses, attendees can look forward to workshops on emerging trends in sports injury rehabilitation and sessions focused on the latest developments in biomechanics and pain management.

The 38th World Congress of Sports Medicine is not only a platform for advancing scientific research but also a celebration of the global sports medicine community’s efforts to enhance athletes' well-being. The UAE’s successful hosting of the event reflects its position as a leader in promoting excellence in sports sciences and healthcare.

With its rich program and elite participation, the Congress is set to leave a lasting impact, providing innovative solutions and valuable insights to advance the future of sports medicine worldwide.
