Magnitude 6.8 Earthquake Hits Philippines Causes Significant Damage

Manila: Early Saturday, a powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the southern Philippines, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a depth of 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) and was centered approximately 20 kilometers from the village of Barcelona, located on the eastern side of Mindanao island.

Despite the intensity of the earthquake, no tsunami warning was issued. The local seismological agency reported that no significant damage was expected, although they cautioned residents to be prepared for potential aftershocks.
