As part of this agreement, M42 and RMS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring world-class heart and lung transplants to patients in Bahrain. This agreement is part of the "Hayat" program, a national effort in the UAE to help people donate and receive organs. The program also highlights Abu Dhabi’s expertise in organ transplants, with its advanced medical facilities and highly skilled doctors.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Brig Gen (Dr) Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the leader of Royal Medical Services, and Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, the CEO of M42, at the Arab Health Exhibition and Conferences. This partnership is a big step forward for the two countries, especially for transplant care in the region.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which is part of M42, will play an important role in this project. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is the only hospital in the UAE that does multi-organ transplants. Since it opened in 2017, the hospital has performed over 774 transplants, including 241 in 2024 alone. It is known for providing the best care to patients who need complex organ transplants.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is also recognized as a top hospital for heart surgery, showing its strength in dealing with serious heart issues.
Thanks to this partnership, people in Bahrain will now be able to receive advanced heart and lung transplant surgeries, supported by the doctors and technology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, along with the resources from RMS.
His Excellency Brig Gen (Dr) Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa said, “This partnership shows how Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are working together to improve healthcare for our people. We are proud to partner with M42, whose knowledge and resources will help improve the care of patients in Bahrain.”
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais added, “M42 is creating partnerships like this to change the future of healthcare. Our work with Bahrain’s Royal Medical Services is helping people get life-saving transplant surgeries and better care, setting a new example of healthcare in the region. This partnership will also help improve education and healthcare services for everyone.”
The M42 and RMS partnership will also focus on many other areas to improve healthcare. Over the next few years, they will offer programs for medical staff to learn new skills, share knowledge, and help each other. They will also work on improving lab tests, such as genomics, and start joint research projects to improve care in difficult medical fields. Additionally, they plan to develop and use new medical technologies to make healthcare even better.
This partnership is an important step in making the healthcare system better in the UAE and Bahrain. By working together, both countries are creating a stronger healthcare system that can help more people live healthier lives.
