A tragic incident unfolded in Lucknow after two sisters in their early twenties died in what police suspect to be a suicide case, reportedly driven by deep emotional distress over the declining health of their pet dog.
According to family members, the sisters—aged 22 and 24—shared a strong emotional bond with their German Shepherd, which had been unwell for a prolonged period. Despite ongoing treatment, the dog’s condition had steadily worsened, leaving the young women deeply distressed.
Their mother told police that both daughters had a history of mental health issues, making them particularly vulnerable during emotionally difficult situations. She said the sisters had been struggling to cope with the possibility of losing their pet.
On Thursday morning, around 11 am, the mother sent the two sisters to purchase groceries. Shortly after returning home, both reportedly collapsed. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the elder sister was declared brought dead. The younger sister remained under treatment for several hours but succumbed later in the evening.
Doctors have indicated that the cause of death appears to be poisoning. During a preliminary search of their room, police recovered a household chemical container, prompting further investigation into the circumstances leading to their deaths.
Confirming the incident, Para Police Station Inspector Suresh Singh said authorities were informed that the deaths appeared to be linked to emotional distress over the family’s ailing pet. The bodies were later handed over to the family after post-mortem procedures, and legal formalities are ongoing.
Police have launched a detailed probe to determine the exact sequence of events and to rule out any other factors. The case has once again highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and timely emotional support, especially for young adults facing grief and psychological vulnerability.
