In a powerful display of focus and control Lando Norris silenced his critics and reclaimed the Formula 1 championship lead with a dominant victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix The McLaren driver led from start to finish crossing the line 30 seconds clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and sealing his sixth win of the season

But the moment wasn’t all cheers As Lando Norris celebrated on the podium the Mexican crowd booed creating a tense yet defiant scene at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Unfazed the Briton smiled and shrugged it off People can do what they want That’s sport he said laughing I prefer cheers but I’m here to do my job

Norris Leads F1 Standings After Mexico GP Victory

With this victory Lando Norris now leads the Formula 1 standings with 357 points edging ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri by just one point Max Verstappen who finished third behind Leclerc trails with 321 points as the season heads into its final four rounds

The Mexico GP was a complete show of dominance for Norris who controlled every lap from pole position Meanwhile Oscar Piastri starting from seventh fought hard to finish fifth after a virtual safety car in the final laps ended his chase for fourth place

Controversy Around Lando Norris’ Championship Lead

Some of the booing appeared to stem from frustration among fans who believed Lando Norris was being favored over Oscar Piastri in the title race A Mexican journalist even mentioned a local poll titled What should Lando do with fans suggesting he return the three points from the Italian Grand Prix where team orders saw him regain a position from Piastri

Norris calmly addressed the issue As a team we try to do things fairly Oscar deserved the win in Budapest last year and I deserved to be ahead at Monza Simple as that

The reaction from some fans may also trace back to remarks Norris made about Mexican driver Sergio Perez last season sparking lingering resentment among local supporters

A Day of Triumph and Turmoil

Despite the boos Sunday was a career defining moment for Lando Norris who hadn’t won since the Hungarian GP in August The McLaren star handled pressure with precision navigating a chaotic race that included Hamilton’s penalty a marshal scare in the pits and Carlos Sainz’s late retirement

While Norris stayed calm under the Mexican sun Piastri battled hard to recover from 11th overtaking Antonelli and Russell to secure crucial championship points The emotional contrast between the two McLaren drivers showcased the fierce but respectful rivalry fueling the team’s success

Ferrari and Mercedes Battle for Second in Constructors Standings

The Mexico GP also shook up the constructors standings with Ferrari reclaiming second place ahead of Mercedes McLaren however has already secured the title a testament to the team’s incredible 2025 campaign

As Lando Norris waved to a divided crowd one thing was clear love him or not he’s back on top The Formula 1 title fight is closer than ever and the drama is only just beginning
