The highly anticipated friendly match between Lionel Messi’s Argentina and India, originally scheduled for November 17 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, has been postponed. The game will now be held during FIFA’s upcoming international match window. Organizers confirmed that a new date will be announced shortly.
The postponement came after delays in receiving official approval from FIFA, the international football governing body. Anto Augustine, managing director of the Reporter Broadcasting Company and event sponsor, explained on social media that discussions with FIFA and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) led to the decision to move the game to a later date.
The AFA cited several issues with hosting the match in India in November. Reports indicated that the stadium and supporting arrangements did not meet FIFA requirements, and there were repeated breaches in preparations. Despite efforts by organizers, including sending a delegation to inspect the stadium and facilities, the November schedule could not be maintained.
Earlier announcements by the Kerala Sports Minister and other sources caused confusion among fans. At one point, the match was reported as cancelled. Later, the AFA confirmed that Argentina would still play in Kochi, though the timing had to be adjusted, leading to further uncertainty.
Organizers are working closely with FIFA and AFA to finalize a new date for the match. The rescheduled game may take place during the next FIFA international window, possibly in early 2026. Fans are advised to stay updated through official channels regarding tickets and schedules.
Despite the postponement, Messi’s visit and the friendly match remain highly anticipated. Organizers aim to ensure the rescheduled game meets all FIFA standards and provides a memorable experience for Indian football fans.
