Kolkata Rape-Murder Suspect Seen on CCTV with Earphones at Crime Scene

Kolkata: In a chilling development in the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at a Kolkata hospital, investigators have released a key CCTV image showing the suspect, Sanjay Roy, entering the hospital shortly after midnight. The footage also captures a Bluetooth earphone coiled around his neck, a detail that has become central to the investigation.

The footage, recorded at 1:03 am on the night of August 8, shows Roy entering RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This time frame aligns with the estimated time of the crime, as the victim was found deceased in the seminar hall of the hospital. The police had previously discovered a Bluetooth earphone at the crime scene, which matched the one seen in the CCTV footage.

During police interrogation, Roy was confronted with the CCTV evidence. According to sources, he confessed to the crime after being shown the footage. Prior to arriving at the hospital, Roy had reportedly visited two brothels in Kolkata’s Sonagachi area on the same night. After drinking alcohol and frequenting the red-light district, he made his way to the hospital, where the crime subsequently took place.

The case has ignited widespread protests across the country, with demonstrations particularly intense in Kolkata. In response to public outcry and the gravity of the case, a special court in Kolkata has authorized a polygraph test for Sanjay Roy. Additionally, the court has approved similar tests for Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, and four other doctors who were on duty during the crucial hours of August 8-9.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on uncovering the full extent of the crime and ensuring justice for the victim.
