His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, came to the reopening of Al Maqta Museum. This museum was fixed and improved by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Abu Dhabi Police. The goal was to keep old places safe and share the story of Abu Dhabi’s past.

Sheikh Khaled was shown how the building was repaired step by step. He also walked through the museum and looked at the new rooms and displays. He saw many old things that Abu Dhabi Police used many years ago, like old police clothes and old police cars.

Sheikh Khaled thanked all the teams who worked hard to save this old place. He said it is very important to protect these places so that children and young people can learn about the country’s past and feel proud of their history.

The museum is inside Maqta Fort, which sits in the Maqta Conservation Area. This area has many old buildings that show how Abu Dhabi changed and grew over time. In the 1950s, this same building was used as a customs office and a police station. It helped watch people and goods going between Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland, before the Maqta Bridge was built. That bridge was the first road link between the island and the rest of the land. The museum sits next to Al Maqta Tower, which was the first fort built to guard the waterway. The tower still stands today in the middle of Khor Al Maqta (a water channel).

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, who works at the Presidential Court, said the reopening shows how the UAE’s leaders want to save history and keep old places safe. He said the museum is now a special place that tells the story of the UAE and how far it has come. It shows how Abu Dhabi grew from a small trading town to a modern city.

The team who worked on the museum made many changes. They fixed the walls using stronger and better material that looks like the old one. They also changed the displays to make them easier to understand and more fun for visitors.

This museum is full of history. It tells about the old times when Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan, the ruler of the Bani Yas tribe, used to visit Abu Dhabi Island in 1761. Later, Sheikh Shakhbut bin Dhiyab built the Al Maqta Tower in the late 1700s to protect the water crossing.

The tower was fixed again in 2022 to stop damage from sea water. Long ago, it helped people find their way to the island and kept the area safe.

In the 1950s, a road was built to link the mainland with Abu Dhabi Island. A police station was also built near the crossing to watch the traffic. That building later became a customs office, which was used until the UAE was formed in 1971. After that, people no longer needed to be checked when moving between the island and the mainland. In 2002, the old police building was changed into a museum to celebrate its big role in history.
