Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has strongly denied reports claiming that he and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, are planning a $600 million wedding in Aspen. The billionaire addressed these rumours, calling them "completely false." Bezos took to X (formerly Twitter) to clear up the confusion and debunk the claims.
The rumours, first reported by the Daily Mail and New York Post, suggested that Bezos and Sanchez were organising an extravagant, winter wonderland-themed wedding at a high-end sushi restaurant called Matsuhisa. The event was supposedly scheduled for December 26-27, with 180 guests, including famous figures like Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Queen Rania of Jordan.

Bezos responded to the reports on X, saying, "This whole thing is completely false — none of this is happening. The adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than ever. Now lies can get around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible." He also added, “It will be interesting to see if all the outlets that ‘covered’ and re-reported on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t happen.”
Lauren Sanchez also dismissed the rumours by sharing Bezos’s post on her Instagram stories with the simple comment, “not true.”
The rumours about the extravagant wedding also caught the attention of investor Bill Ackman, who questioned the possibility of such a costly event. He wrote on X, “This is not credible. Unless you are buying each of your guests a house, you can't spend this much money." Bezos referenced Ackman’s comment in his post, stressing again that the reports were completely false.
The couple, who began dating in 2018, went public with their relationship after Bezos' divorce from his wife, MacKenzie Scott, in 2019. Since then, they have kept their relationship private and have not confirmed any specific details about their wedding plans, leaving the rumours unverified.
Jeff Bezos’ divorce from MacKenzie Scott was widely reported. Scott received $38 billion in the settlement, a large portion of which she pledged to charity. This settlement made her the third-richest woman in the world, as she received 25% of the couple's joint Amazon stock, although Bezos retained voting control over her nearly 20 million shares.
Meanwhile, Lauren Sanchez has her plans. In November 2022, she revealed her intention to travel to space, following in the footsteps of Jeff Bezos, who founded the space company Blue Origin. She mentioned that she was excited about the idea of being part of a crew of women on the space journey.
Sanchez was previously married to Patrick Whitesell and has two children, Ella and Evan, with him. She also has a 22-year-old son, Nikko, from her previous relationship with former NFL player Tony Gonzalez.
As of now, the couple has not shared any details about their wedding, leaving the rumours about a $600 million wedding in Aspen to be dismissed as false.
