Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again postponed his planned trip to India, which was scheduled for later this year. The visit was expected to include meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but it has now been delayed due to heightened security concerns following a recent deadly explosion in New Delhi.
The blast, which happened two weeks ago, was the most severe attack the city has faced in over a decade. At least 15 people were killed and many others were injured. Security agencies in both countries have been closely monitoring the situation since then.
According to reports, Israeli officials advised postponing the visit until a fresh security assessment is completed. Netanyahu is now expected to look for a new date next year, depending on how the situation develops.
This marks the third time this year that Netanyahu has cancelled or postponed a visit to India. Earlier, he called off a one-day trip on September 9 because of repeat elections in Israel. He had also withdrawn from a planned visit before the April elections for similar political reasons.
Netanyahu’s visit was seen as part of a broader effort to highlight his strong relationships with global leaders. Posters and banners with his images alongside Prime Minister Modi, the US President, and Russia’s President were recently displayed in Israel to strengthen his political message at home. His campaign has often focused on presenting him as a leader with significant international influence, especially on matters related to national security.
Netanyahu last visited India in January 2018, while PM Modi made a historic trip to Israel in 2017—the first by an Indian prime minister. The two leaders have maintained a warm relationship, and their meetings are often highlighted in media from both countries.
For now, officials are waiting for improved conditions and a safer environment before confirming new travel plans.
