Islamabad Police Launch Strict Crackdown on Unlicensed Drivers

Islamabad: In a decisive move to curb unlicensed driving and enhance road safety, Islamabad Police have announced a stringent policy targeting drivers without valid licences, effective October 1. Officials warn that violators will face immediate arrest, vehicle seizure, and legal proceedings.

Under the new directive, both private and government vehicles operated by unlicensed drivers will be impounded. Offenders will also be barred from obtaining character certificates until a valid driving licence is secured. Personal guarantees will no longer be accepted for the release of arrested drivers, marking a significant tightening of enforcement.

Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, has instructed traffic officials to implement the crackdown across the city. Special operations are being planned to ensure full compliance and to address what authorities describe as a rising road safety concern.

To facilitate adherence to the new rules, traffic police offices will provide licencing services to help government employees and citizens obtain or renew driving licences before the October 1 deadline. Authorities have urged all residents to ensure their licences are valid to avoid penalties.

“This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve road discipline, reduce accidents, and strengthen traffic management across Islamabad,” IG Rizvi said. “We urge citizens to comply fully, as no exceptions will be made once the enforcement begins.”
