In a major push towards modernizing trade, DP World has partnered with Kenya’s Electronic Citizen Solutions (eCitizen) to roll out its cutting-edge digital customs platform, CARGOES Customs, through the government’s flagship services portal. The long-term agreement, signed recently in Nairobi, aims to revolutionize customs processes for importers, exporters, and authorized agents.
CARGOES Customs is among the world’s most advanced systems for managing customs declarations. It provides a streamlined, secure, and efficient alternative to the legacy Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs system. By integrating with eCitizen, the platform offers a next-generation channel for customs clearance, enhancing trade flow and operational efficiency.
Mahmood AlBastaki, COO of Digital Trade Solutions at DP World, stated, “Our partnership with eCitizen to expand the use of CARGOES Customs marks a major step forward in making trade in Kenya faster and more secure for merchants, traders, and customs authorities. The eCitizen platform already serves as a central hub in Kenya’s trade ecosystem, including payment services for Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) operations. With this collaboration, traders will benefit from electronic payments via digital wallets and bank transfers, while government agencies gain access to AI-enabled risk management tools. The system also supports KRA Customs in enhancing inspection processes, revenue collection, compliance monitoring, and overall operational efficiency.
