Iran Blasts Trump's 'Reckless' Intervention Threat Amid Protests

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has sharply criticized US President Donald Trump's recent statements warning of possible American intervention if Iranian protesters face violence. Describing Trump's remarks as 'reckless and dangerous,' Araghchi responded to the President's social media declaration that America is 'locked and loaded,' vowing support for demonstrators amid growing economic disarray in Iran.

Emphasizing the readiness of Iran's military, Araghchi asserted they 'know exactly where to aim' should any aggression occur. He further pointed to Trump's domestic use of force in the US, especially the deployment of the National Guard to manage civil unrest, underscoring that 'criminal attacks on public property cannot be tolerated.' He firmly stated that any outside meddling in Iran's internal matters would receive a robust response.

The protests ignited in Tehran, fueled by significant drops in the value of the rial, resulting in intensified economic struggles for the populace. Over recent days, protests have expanded to various cities, leading to confrontations between security personnel and citizens. Reports from officials and human rights organizations indicate that at least eight individuals have died in these clashes, although reliable independent verification is challenging.

This unrest marks the broadest expression of dissent since the 2022 protests, which followed the death of Mahsa Amini while detained by Iran's morality police. While the current protests have not yet reached the same scale, they reflect considerable public discontent. Iranian leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, have committed to addressing the 'legitimate demands' of protesters, while Prosecutor General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad cautioned that any efforts to destabilize the country would meet a 'decisive response.'

In a bid to gain international support, Iran's UN Ambassador, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has issued a letter to the UN Security Council urging condemnation of Trump's threatening statements. Iravani asserts the United States holds 'full responsibility' for any fallout from these 'unlawful threats' and any escalation that may ensue.

As Iran anticipates further demonstrations, the global community remains vigilant amidst growing tensions potentially exacerbated by foreign involvement.
