Amid rising tensions between Canada and India, Elon Musk’s recent comments about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have sparked significant reactions on social media in India. Musk has become increasingly vocal in critiquing Trudeau, particularly in the context of the upcoming Canadian elections, scheduled for next year.
Last week, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk predicted that Trudeau would face a downfall in the next election, which is set to occur on or before October 2025. Responding to a user's request for help in removing Trudeau from office, Musk wrote: "He will be gone in the upcoming election." Musk's bold prediction caught the attention of many, including Indian social media users, who echoed similar sentiments. Musk also reshared a post that criticized Trudeau's leadership by showing a decline in Canada's GDP per capita under his government, to which Musk replied with a simple, "Wow."
Indian users on X were quick to react to Musk's comments. One user described Trudeau as a "woke virus run by Khalistani terrorists," while another commented, "We agree with you." Other responses included enthusiastic endorsements such as "Cannot wait! Trudeau is a disaster!" and "Hope your words turn into reality next year," expressing hope that Musk’s prediction would come true.

Musk’s criticisms of the Trudeau government are not new. Last year, he accused the Canadian administration of "crushing free speech" when the government implemented regulations requiring online streaming services to register with the government for "regulatory controls." Musk called this policy "shameful," saying, "Trudeau is trying to crush free speech in Canada."
Earlier, in February 2022, Musk drew harsh comparisons between Trudeau and Adolf Hitler after the Canadian government invoked emergency powers in response to the truckers’ protest against vaccine mandates. Musk responded to a post about Trudeau's government cutting funding to the protesters by sharing a meme of a photo of Hitler, with the text: "Stop comparing me to Justin Trudeau" above it and "I had a budget" below it, adding further fuel to his criticism.
These remarks come amid a broader backdrop of strained political and diplomatic relations between India and Canada. India has repeatedly raised concerns over the rise of extremism and anti-India activities within Canada. Diplomatic tensions reached a peak after Canadian leaders accused India of being involved in the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In response, India recalled its High Commissioner, adding further strain to the already tense relations.
On the ground in Canada, the Indian community has faced an uptick in violent incidents, including temple vandalism and physical assaults. These acts of hostility, alongside the political climate, have led many in the Indian diaspora to express frustration with Trudeau's leadership, particularly with his handling of issues related to extremism.
Elon Musk’s vocal criticism of Trudeau, particularly on platforms like X, has resonated with many Indians, amplifying his popularity in the country. His remarks continue to attract attention and spark debate, further fuelling tensions within the Canadian political landscape, especially ahead of the 2025 elections.
Given the diplomatic context and the ongoing tensions between Canada and India, Musk’s comments are likely to remain a subject of intense discussion in the coming months.
