A tragic road incident in eastern Kazakhstan has led to the death of an Indian medical student, with two others sustaining injuries during an excursion trip, as reported by the Indian Embassy on Tuesday.
The unfortunate accident involved 11 students from Semey Medical University who were returning from a trip when their vehicle encountered mishap near Ust-Kamenagorsk, situated close to the Altai mountains.
The student who lost her life has been identified as Mili Mohan, 25 years old. The injured individuals, Ashika Sheejamini Santhosh and Jaseena B, are reported to be in stable condition, currently receiving medical care at City Hospital No. 1 in Ust-Kamenagorsk.
In a heartfelt statement on social media, the Indian Embassy expressed its sincere condolences to the grieving family and shared that they are in close contact with university authorities, hospital staff, and the affected students' families.
Additionally, the Embassy has indicated that family members of the injured students have reached Kazakhstan and are receiving hands-on support. Officials are collaborating closely with local entities to ensure comprehensive medical and logistical assistance.
Efforts are being made to expedite the repatriation of the deceased student’s remains back to India. The Embassy reassured that every possible aid is extended to the families facing this challenging situation.
The incident took place in the picturesque Altai region, known for its mountainous terrain that spans Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia. This region is recognised for its ecological and cultural significance, with parts designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
