Mumbai: Indian equity markets witnessed a strong start on Monday, as both the Sensex and Nifty recovered after three consecutive sessions of losses. The rebound came on the back of positive trends across Asian markets and renewed buying in major blue-chip stocks.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 267.74 points, or 0.32%, to 83,484.02, while the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 84.90 points, or 0.33%, to 25,577.20 in early trade.
Key Movers on the Day
Among Sensex constituents, Asian Paints, Bharat Electronics, Larsen & Toubro, Titan, Reliance Industries, Tata Motors, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, ITC, and Bharti Airtel led the gains.
On the other hand, Trent Ltd, Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, State Bank of India, Adani Ports, and UltraTech Cement saw some selling pressure, dragging the index slightly.
Positive Global Cues
Asian markets provided support, with South Korea's Kospi soaring 3%, Japan’s Nikkei rising nearly 1%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbing 0.47%. Meanwhile, Shanghai’s Composite Index traded slightly lower. The US markets closed mostly higher on Friday, giving additional confidence to domestic investors.
Strong Foreign and Domestic Participation
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers, investing Rs 4,581.34 crore in equities on Friday. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) led the buying spree with Rs 6,674.77 crore, reflecting sustained investor interest in Indian markets.
Commodity Impact
Brent crude oil prices rose 0.64% to USD 64.04 per barrel, adding marginal pressure on energy-related stocks, though it did not hinder overall market optimism.
After a mild dip on Friday, with Sensex falling 94.73 points and Nifty sliding 17.40 points, the markets now appear to regain momentum at the start of the new week, supported by foreign inflows and strong blue-chip performance.
