Zambian officials said he had $2.3 million (about Rs 17 crore) in cash and seven pieces of gold worth around $500,000. The cash was packed in a black bag and placed inside a bigger suitcase. The money was tied with rubber bands in bundles of $100 bills.
Zambia’s Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) said the man was caught by a team from different agencies. The officials said they are still looking into the case and warned that criminals will eventually be caught.
Zambia is a country rich in copper and gold, but many people there are poor. Over 60% of Zambia’s people live in poverty. In 2023, five Egyptians were caught in Zambia with weapons, 127 kilograms of gold, and $5.7 million in cash. They were let go after charges of spying were dropped.
Zambia is taking strong action to stop people from bringing illegal goods into the country. They want to make sure criminals can’t use Zambia for illegal activities.
