India’s blind women’s cricket team made history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s Twenty20 World Cup on November 23, 2025. The final match was held at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka, where India defeated Nepal by seven wickets to become the first champions of this special tournament.
India won the toss and chose to field first. They managed to restrict Nepal to a total of 114 runs for 5 wickets. In response, India chased down the target comfortably, scoring 117 runs for 3 wickets in just 12 overs. This strong performance showcased their skill and determination throughout the tournament.
Phula Saren was the top scorer for India with 44 runs off 27 balls, playing a key role in securing the win. For Nepal, Sarita Ghimire made 35 runs from 38 balls, putting up a solid fight for her team.
This tournament, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, featured teams from Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the United States, Nepal, and India. The final took place at Sri Lanka’s oldest Test cricket venue, adding a historic touch to the event.
Blind cricket is a unique version of the sport played with a white plastic ball filled with ball bearings, which makes a rattling sound to help players locate it by hearing. The game has special rules to accommodate players’ vision levels. For fairness, players wear blindfolds, and fielders use clapping sounds to communicate their positions.
Each team consists of 11 players, with at least four players completely blind (classified as B1). Runs scored by B1 players count double to encourage their participation. Players with partial sight are classified as B2 or B3, depending on their vision range.
India’s victory is a proud moment and reflects the hard work, spirit, and dedication of the team. Their historic win will inspire many more players with disabilities to take up the sport and showcase their talent on the global stage.
