India, Israel Sign Defence Pact to Boost Technology and Security Ties

India and Israel have taken a significant step forward in their long-standing defence partnership with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation. The agreement was formalised in Tel Aviv during the 17th India-Israel Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Defence Cooperation, co-chaired by India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Major General (Res.) Amir Baram, Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Defence.

According to the official statement, the MoU aims to establish “a unified vision and policy direction” to further deepen the already strong defence ties between the two nations. The pact outlines a comprehensive framework for sharing advanced technologies and promoting co-development and co-production in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, defence innovation, and research and development.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on enhancing operational capabilities and addressing mutual security concerns, including terrorism. The JWG reviewed ongoing initiatives and acknowledged the benefits of continued cooperation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening defence innovation and joint ventures.

India and Israel share a robust and trusted relationship rooted in shared security goals and technological advancement. Israel remains one of India’s most valued defence partners, playing a crucial role in enhancing India’s military capabilities and supporting its defence modernization initiatives.

The new MoU coincides with the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to New Delhi, where he met India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Saar described India as a “global superpower” and praised the growing strategic and technological collaboration between the two countries.

The agreement reflects the evolving nature of India-Israel relations, moving beyond traditional defence trade toward joint innovation and technology-driven cooperation. The timing of this pact highlights the shared vision of both democracies to develop future-ready defence solutions and strengthen their partnership amid global security challenges.
