The Indian government has approved a plan from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) to open its first campus outside India, in Dubai. This proposal came from the Commerce Ministry and has now received all the necessary permissions. These approvals came from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
IIFT said that the new Dubai campus will help meet the growing education needs of Indian families living abroad and students from other countries. It also aims to make India’s presence stronger in the Gulf region when it comes to education.

The Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Piyush Goyal, said that this decision shows the true spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He said it is an important step in making Indian education more global and helping India become a leader in sharing knowledge with the world.
Before opening the campus, IIFT will also get the needed permissions from the UAE (United Arab Emirates), as required by their local rules.
The Education Ministry made it clear that teachers or learning facilities from the Delhi campus or other campuses in India will not be moved to Dubai. Everything at the existing campuses will continue as it is.
Also, the government has said that no money from IIFT's Indian campuses, especially the one in New Delhi, will be used to pay for or run the Dubai campus. It will be run separately.
IIFT was started in 1963 by the Ministry of Commerce. Its main goal is to help people learn about international trade and business. It teaches students modern management and business skills needed in the global market.
Right now, IIFT has campuses in New Delhi, Kolkata, and Kakinada (in Andhra Pradesh). It offers several long-term courses for people who want to work in international business or improve their careers. These include a two-year MBA in International Business in New Delhi and Kolkata, and a PhD programme in Management in both cities.
