American Senator Marco Rubio has said that the United States is worried about the serious situation in Gaza. He spoke after many people were killed in air attacks by Israel. Health officials said that at least 114 Palestinians died on Thursday during the strikes.
When asked by the BBC if the U.S. still supports Israel's military actions—especially after attacks on hospitals and other buildings—Rubio repeated that Hamas should give up and free the hostages it is holding. He said that as long as Hamas continues to exist, there can be no peace.

However, Rubio also said that the U.S. understands and feels the pain of the people living in Gaza. “We are not ignoring the suffering there,” he said. “There are chances to send help to them, and we want to do that.”
For the last 10 weeks, Gaza has been completely blocked by Israel. This means that no food, water, or medical supplies are allowed in. Israeli forces say they are attacking Hamas fighters and buildings as they prepare to expand their ground attack in Gaza.
Rubio’s comments came after he attended a NATO meeting in Turkey. He was likely talking about a new plan from Israel and the U.S. This plan would use private companies to set up special places inside Gaza where aid could be collected and given to people. But the United Nations (UN) has rejected this idea. The UN said it is unfair and would not work properly.
These comments came while Donald Trump is visiting the region. At the same time, talks are going on between Hamas and Israel—through other countries—to try and agree on a new ceasefire and to free hostages.
Hamas has blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for making the talks harder. They said his military attacks are stopping peace efforts.
In response, an Israeli government spokesperson said they want the talks to work and hope to free the hostages. But they also said they will continue fighting Hamas during these talks to keep pressure on them.
The U.S. is the main country that gives weapons to Israel. Rubio’s words are different this time. Usually, he only talks about how Hamas should surrender. But now, he also mentioned the pain of Gaza’s people. This change in tone comes after reports of tension between Donald Trump and Netanyahu.
In summary, the situation in Gaza is still very serious, with many people dying and no aid getting in. While the U.S. still supports Israel, it is starting to talk more about helping the people in Gaza too.
