Abu Dhabi — The UAE has entered a period of intense weather conditions marked by dense fog and soaring daytime temperatures. Authorities have issued multiple alerts to residents and commuters as early morning fog has reduced visibility significantly in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and yellow alerts this morning due to heavy fog formation that began developing in the early hours. Visibility dropped below 1,000 meters in some areas, prompting traffic police to activate variable speed limits across key highways. Drivers are being urged to keep headlights on, avoid tailgating, and follow posted limits which have been temporarily reduced for safety.
Meanwhile, the afternoons are becoming unbearable with temperatures touching 47°C in internal parts of the country. Coastal and urban areas like Abu Dhabi and Dubai are seeing temperatures hover around 40–44°C, but high humidity levels—reaching up to 90%—are making the heat feel much more intense. Health authorities have advised residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid direct exposure to the sun.

Outdoor workers are under additional protection as the midday work ban continues to be enforced across the country. According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), all outdoor labor is suspended between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM until mid-September. Random inspections are underway to ensure employers are complying with the guidelines and that workers are being safeguarded against heat stress.
The UAE's weather challenge this week is twofold—reduced visibility during morning commutes and scorching conditions through the rest of the day. Public safety campaigns are being run to educate residents on how to protect themselves, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.
Air travel may also be affected. Though no major delays have been reported so far, airlines have advised passengers to check flight status before heading to airports due to potential low visibility at runways.
Environmental experts note that this extreme heat and fog combination is typical of summer transitions in the Gulf region. “Moisture trapped overnight with declining wind speeds leads to heavy fog, followed by rapid heating during the day,” said a weather specialist at the NCM.
As the weather pattern continues, residents are advised to monitor official updates from the NCM, Dubai Police, and Abu Dhabi Police, and to plan their travel and work schedules accordingly. Caution is especially advised for motorists driving during fog and for anyone outdoors in the afternoon heat.
