Dubai Police has introduced new advancements in smart traffic systems designed to enhance road safety and effectively monitor traffic violations, according to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. These sophisticated technologies are proving instrumental in detecting infractions, even in cases where drivers attempt to conceal their actions, such as by using tinted front windows to obstruct visibility.

Al Mazrouei emphasized that Dubai Police's ongoing investment in these smart traffic technologies plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of road users. The systems are capable of detecting a wide range of violations, even those occurring inside vehicles, such as failure to wear seatbelts, using mobile phones, and other distractions that divert a driver’s attention from the road.

In recent months, Dubai's advanced camera systems have captured several serious incidents of distracted driving, which can significantly increase the risk of accidents. Notable cases include a woman caught driving while talking on two phones simultaneously and another individual reading a newspaper while driving, which obstructed their view of the road. To address these dangerous behaviors, Dubai Police has launched an awareness campaign under the slogan #Safe_Road_for_All, which includes a video highlighting the dangers of inattentive driving.

Major General Al Mazrouei stressed the severe consequences of distracted driving, particularly following recent changes under Decree No. 30 of 2023. The new amendments give authorities the discretion to impound vehicles for up to 30 days when drivers are caught engaging in distracting activities, such as using their phones while driving.

The awareness video is part of a broader effort by Dubai Police to raise public awareness about the importance of road safety and encourage responsible driving habits. Through these campaigns, the police aim to reduce traffic incidents, especially those involving serious accidents. The messages emphasize key road safety practices such as adhering to speed limits, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, respecting pedestrian rights, and ensuring that all drivers comply with traffic laws.

By focusing on these initiatives, Dubai Police is working to achieve its strategic vision of making the city safer for everyone. The department’s commitment to improving traffic safety aims to enhance public well-being, reduce the number of road accidents, and create a culture of compliance with road regulations to prevent future tragedies.
