London: Heathrow Airport has removed the long-standing 100ml liquid limit for hand luggage, allowing passengers to carry containers of up to two litres through security checks. The change comes after the full installation of new high-tech CT scanners across all Heathrow terminals, according to the reports.
With the new scanners, travellers no longer need to take out liquids or electronic items like laptops from their bags, and clear plastic bags are no longer required. Heathrow said it is now the largest airport in the world to fully deploy this advanced screening technology.
The new rule applies only to flights departing from Heathrow, and passengers are advised to check security rules at their return airports, as other airports may still follow the old restrictions.
Heathrow’s chief executive Thomas Woldbye said the £1 billion upgrade will speed up security checks and make travel easier, allowing passengers to spend less time preparing at security.
Several other UK airports, including Gatwick, Edinburgh, and Birmingham, have also increased their liquid limits, while some are still waiting for government approval.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) introduced similar changes last year using advanced scanners, aiming to reduce waiting times and improve passenger experience.
