The announcement of the project was made in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai. ‘Therme Dubai’ will be the first of its kind in the Middle East, offering a unique combination of wellness, family entertainment, healthcare, and natural environments. It will also be the tallest facility of its kind in the world, providing both relaxation and fun for visitors.
The project will be developed in Zabeel Park, Dubai, through a partnership with the Therme Group, a well-known international leader in creating wellness resorts. The estimated cost of the project is AED 2 billion, which will be financed by both local and international investors. The development is expected to be completed by 2028.
At the event, Sheikh Hamdan was greeted by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Supreme Urban Planning Committee and Director-General of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority. The event was also attended by other prominent officials, such as His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director-General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, and His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World.
Sheikh Hamdan was briefed about the master plan of the ‘Therme Dubai project, which fits into the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. This plan aims to create vibrant and healthy communities while providing a welcoming environment for residents and visitors. It also aims to make Dubai more attractive to international companies and investors.
‘Therme Dubai’ will play a significant role in boosting Dubai’s medical tourism sector by offering health-focused services and promoting a balanced lifestyle centered around both physical and mental wellbeing. The project aims to attract those looking for a holistic wellness experience while also enhancing the overall well-being of residents.
The project will cover 500,000 square feet and will be 100 meters tall, designed to host up to 1.7 million visitors each year. Some of the key features of the project include world-class amenities such as natural therapeutic zones, thermal pools, and wellness spaces. Visitors will enjoy a variety of attractions, including a Michelin-star restaurant, three 18-meter waterfalls, and vast indoor and terrace pools that will remain open all year round.
Other attractions will include a play area with 15 water slides, as well as art installations designed to provide a unique and engaging experience for visitors. The building will also be eco-friendly, using cutting-edge technologies for water treatment, heating, and cooling. Around 90% of the water in the thermal pools will be recycled, and 80% of the cooling and fresh air needs will be powered by clean energy.
The resort will have three main zones: a Play Zone for families, a Relax Zone for adults with relaxing pools and steam rooms, and a Restore Zone focused on rejuvenation. The project will also feature the world’s largest indoor botanical garden, with over 200 plant species. This garden will help improve urban biodiversity and promote sustainability.
Guests will also be able to enjoy water activities such as multi-sensory saunas, wave pools, and therapeutic mineral pools. The resort will include spa treatments inspired by traditional bathing cultures from around the world, such as Roman and Turkish baths, Japanese hot springs, and Nordic saunas.
‘Therme Dubai’ will emphasize the importance of wellbeing, promoting healthy habits and active lifestyles for the community. The project will contribute to the development of greener, healthier urban spaces and position Dubai as a leading destination for global wellness tourism.
The design of the resort has been entrusted to the global architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, known for their iconic designs, such as The Shed in New York and the University of Chicago building. The lead designer, Liz Diller, is highly respected in the field of cultural spaces.
Therme Group, which owns and operates the resort, aims to revolutionize wellbeing through the creation of spaces that promote physical, social, and mental health. The group is known for creating inclusive and scalable wellness solutions, helping communities reconnect with nature, themselves, and each other. Other Therme locations include Therme Bucharest, the world’s first LEED Platinum-certified wellbeing center, and Therme Erding, the largest wellbeing destination in the world.
