Reflecting on City’s unusual tactics, Guardiola said, “We don’t try to come and play like this. But when the opponent is better and we defend deeper, we can use the counterattack with players like Erling and Tijjani. Our intention is not normally to defend this way, but at this level, sometimes you have to adapt.” Defender Ruben Dias added, “It was nice to have safety in numbers and a goalkeeper like Donnarumma behind us.
