Giuliano Simeone's Brace Leads Atletico to Copa Del Rey Semi-Finals

Giuliano Simeone scored two goals as Atletico Madrid won 5-0 against Getafe on Tuesday, moving into the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The 22-year-old forward, son of Atletico coach Diego Simeone, has become very important for his team recently. His two goals helped his side get off to a great start in a one-sided match. Samuel Lino, Angel Correa, and Alexander Sorloth also scored for Atletico in a big win.

"I’m so happy with this night at the stadium, it was amazing. But first, I need to thank my teammates because we all worked really hard," said Giuliano Simeone, who was the best player of the match. "I’m happy, and I’m always thinking about what I can improve. I’m working on getting better every day," he added.

Atletico Madrid, who last won the Spanish Cup in 2013, started the game fast and took control early at their home stadium, the Metropolitano. They went ahead in the 8th minute when Simeone scored with a header from a cross by Javi Galan. Getafe goalkeeper Jiri Letacek was unsure whether to come out for the cross and ended up out of position.

Just nine minutes later, Simeone scored again, with a pass from Rodrigo De Paul that broke through Getafe’s defense.

Julian Alvarez had a chance to score a third goal but missed the target after receiving a good pass from Antoine Griezmann.

Before halftime, Lino scored a great goal. He made a smart turn to trick Getafe’s Juan Iglesias and then finished calmly.

Simeone thought he had scored a hat-trick in the second half, but his goal was disallowed because of an offside call against Galan in the build-up.

Getafe tried to play better after that, but Atletico Madrid was already in control. Atletico’s substitutes then finished off the game with more goals. In the 78th minute, Correa scored a powerful shot from outside the box, and then Sorloth scored the fifth goal after a pass from Correa.

"The team played very well, starting fast and controlling the game from the start," said Diego Simeone. He also talked about his son’s great form: "He’s playing really well right now, the fans see it, and they will expect even more from him. He needs to keep up this level."

In other quarter-finals, Real Madrid will play Leganes, Real Sociedad will host Osasuna, and Barcelona will face Valencia.
