Earthquake of Magnitude 5.5 Strikes Tibet, No Casualties Reported

An earthquake with a strength of 5.5 struck Tibet early on Monday morning, according to the China Earthquake Administration (CEA). The quake hit the city of Shigatse at 5:11 a.m. local time, or 2111 GMT, and occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) underground.

Emergency response teams have been sent to the affected area, and so far, there have been no reports of injuries or damage. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

This earthquake follows a deadly one in January, which had a magnitude of 6.8. That earthquake, which hit Tibet's Tingri county, around 240 km (149 miles) from Shigatse, resulted in over 120 deaths.
