Living with ADHD can be very difficult. People with this condition often struggle to stay focused, remember things, and get proper sleep. While doctors usually suggest medicines and lifestyle changes, some natural supplements may also help in managing the symptoms.
Dr. Robert Love, a neuroscientist from Florida who studies brain health and Alzheimer’s prevention, recently shared three supplements that may support people with ADHD. In a video posted on November 11, he explained how these supplements can help improve focus, reduce stress, and promote better sleep. However, he also warned that anyone thinking of taking them should first talk to their doctor.
Dr. Love said that these supplements work by increasing dopamine levels or lowering stress hormones in the body. Dopamine is a chemical that helps people stay alert, focused, and motivated. Low dopamine levels are often linked to ADHD.
The first supplement he mentioned is L-tyrosine. It is an amino acid found in many protein-rich foods. Dr. Love explained that L-tyrosine helps the body make more dopamine, which can improve focus and energy. “When you take L-tyrosine, it gives your brain the ability to make more dopamine,” he said. “It can even be used along with prescribed ADHD medicines, but only after talking to your doctor.”
The second supplement is Lion’s Mane, a natural mushroom that is becoming popular for brain health. Dr. Love said Lion’s Mane helps lower stress and anxiety, improves memory, and promotes better sleep. He also shared his personal experience, saying, “I’ve struggled with sleep for years, and Lion’s Mane has really helped me. When I wake up at night, it helps me fall back asleep easily.” This shows how the supplement might benefit people who have sleep problems because of ADHD.
The third supplement Dr. Love discussed is L-theanine, another amino acid commonly found in green and black tea. It helps calm the mind and reduce stress by lowering cortisol, the body’s stress hormone. Dr. Love said that L-theanine can be taken in the morning to help with focus and calmness or at night to improve sleep. “It’s very safe, very powerful, and really good for ADHD symptoms,” he explained.
These three supplements—L-tyrosine, Lion’s Mane, and L-theanine—work in different ways but share one goal: to make life easier for people dealing with ADHD. They may help improve attention, reduce anxiety, and support better rest.
However, Dr. Love reminded his audience that supplements are not a cure. ADHD is a medical condition that often needs a full treatment plan, including medical advice, therapy, and lifestyle support. He also warned that supplements can affect people differently and should not replace prescribed medicines without a doctor’s approval.
Many experts agree that while supplements can help, it’s important to have a balanced diet, regular sleep, and daily exercise to keep the brain healthy. Drinking enough water, limiting processed food, and practicing mindfulness or meditation can also help reduce stress and improve focus.
Dr. Love’s message is clear: natural supplements can be a useful addition, but medical guidance is still necessary. His approach focuses on helping people manage ADHD in a safe and natural way while improving their quality of life.
As more research continues, these natural methods might become a trusted part of ADHD care. For now, people living with ADHD can talk to their doctors about whether these supplements might fit safely into their treatment plan.
