Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently opened up about the early challenges in her marriage with husband Shirish Kunder, revealing that their contrasting personalities often led to fights in the initial years.
Farah, who tied the knot with Shirish in 2004, shared her candid thoughts during an episode of a podcast hosted by tennis star Sania Mirza. She revealed that a major point of contention arose when she would try to force Shirish to attend social gatherings with her.
“People used to ignore him and focus only on me because I was more successful at that time. That made him feel uncomfortable,” Farah explained. She added, “Not just in the industry, the world is full of such people, so they will always hone in on the more successful person. I didn’t like that, and he didn’t either. Eventually, we agreed that if he felt uncomfortable coming out with certain people, he didn’t have to. I want him to be happy and at peace.”
Farah also spoke about why she prefers to keep her personal life private. She said, “We know we are secure in our marriage and we don’t need to hold hands on the red carpet. Sometimes, I feel that the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something is brewing.”
Farah and Shirish met in the early 2000s when he edited her directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. Over the years, the duo has collaborated on films such as Jaan-E-Mann, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan. They married in 2004 and welcomed triplets—Diva, Anya, and Czar—in 2008. Despite their high-profile careers, Farah rarely shares pictures with Shirish and their children, preferring to keep her family life private.
Farah’s last film as a director was Happy New Year in 2014. Recently, she hosted Celebrity MasterChef and continues to run a successful YouTube channel where she posts celebrity cooking videos with her chef Dileep.
