Under the wise leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the “Mother of the Nation”, the UAE has announced the official theme for Emirati Women’s Day 2025. This year, the theme is “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years.” The announcement has made everyone in the country feel proud and happy as it highlights the great role of women in the UAE for the past five decades.
Why This Day is Celebrated
Emirati Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 28th August. It is a special day to appreciate and honour the efforts and achievements of Emirati women in different fields like education, health, space, business, and leadership. But this year, the day is even more special because it marks 50 years since the General Women’s Union (GWU) was established in 1975.

The Theme: Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years
The theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years” was chosen to show the strong community partnership between men and women in the UAE. It is also linked with the announcement by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has declared 2025 as the ‘Year of Community’ with the overall theme “Hand in Hand”.
This theme shows how important it is for all people in the UAE to work together. It reflects the country’s vision to build a strong and united society where men and women both play equal roles in development and progress.
The Role of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak
Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak has always worked hard to support and empower Emirati women. She is the Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. People in the UAE call her the “Mother of the Nation” because she cares deeply about families, children, and women.
Since the General Women’s Union was founded in 1975, Sheikha Fatima has guided it with her wise and caring leadership. Under her guidance, the Union has created many programs, projects, and laws to protect the rights of women and give them opportunities to succeed in their lives and careers.
The Meaning Behind the Theme
This year’s theme has a very deep meaning. It is not just about celebrating the achievements of women. It is also about encouraging everyone in society to work together hand in hand. The theme shows that:
Women and men are equal partners in building the country.
Community partnership is very important for success.
Empowering women means empowering the entire nation.
50 Years of Achievements
In these 50 years, Emirati women have proved themselves in all fields. They are:
Doctors, nurses, and scientists saving lives and researching new treatments.
Teachers and professors educating young minds.
Business leaders running big companies.
Ministers and government leaders making important decisions for the country.
Astronauts and engineers working on UAE’s space missions.
All these achievements have made the UAE proud at a global level.
The Vision for the Future
The leadership of the UAE believes that women will continue to play a big role in the nation’s journey. They think that:
Women should be given all the opportunities to reach their dreams.
They should be respected, supported, and encouraged at every step.
By working together as a community, the UAE can become stronger and better.
Sheikha Fatima’s Message to Everyone
Through her life and work, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak has always shown that:
Women are strong and capable.
Families become happier when women are supported.
Society becomes more peaceful and developed when everyone gets equal rights.
She has created a system that is based on empowerment, identity, solidarity, and community partnership. These values are very important for the UAE.
Why Emirati Women’s Day is Important
Emirati Women’s Day is not just a day to celebrate. It is also a day to:
Remember the struggles of women in the past.
Appreciate their hard work today.
Promise to continue supporting them in the future.
The leadership believes that when women grow, the nation grows. When women are educated, their families and children also become educated. When women are given good health and safety, they can work and live happily. This is why investing in women is always the best investment for any country.
A Day of Pride and Promise
On 28th August 2025, people all over the UAE will come together to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day with pride. Schools, universities, companies, and government offices will hold special events to honour the achievements of women. Children will learn about the contributions of women in building the nation. Young girls will feel inspired to work hard and reach great heights just like the strong women before them.
This day will be a celebration of 50 years of success and a promise to continue walking hand in hand into a brighter future.
