On January 24, 2025, Emirates Airlines flight EK342, an Airbus A380, made an emergency landing at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. The flight had taken off from Dubai International Airport, headed for Kuala Lumpur when a medical emergency onboard forced the crew to change its route.
The Emirates flight, with registration number A6-EOU, was initially scheduled to leave at 10:40 AM GST but had a delay of 47 minutes, finally departing at 11:27 AM GST. After about three and a half hours of flying, the aircraft was over Andhra Pradesh in India when it suddenly made a sharp right turn. The pilots began descending toward Bengaluru.

The flight safely landed at Bengaluru Airport at 4:22 PM IST, roughly 25 minutes after the decision to divert was made. The emergency was caused by a medical situation onboard, though Emirates has not revealed specific details about the person's condition. The airline acted quickly, following its strong safety measures and ensuring the passengers received the necessary medical care.
This diversion highlights Emirates' dedication to the safety and well-being of its passengers. Although the passenger’s health condition remains unknown, the flight crew responded efficiently to the situation, getting the passengers the help they needed.
After the emergency landing and medical attention, the flight continued its journey and was airborne again, heading to Kuala Lumpur.
This incident is similar to an event that occurred on November 30, 2024, with an Air India flight. Flight AI106, which was traveling from Newark to Delhi, had to change its route and land in Moscow after about nine hours in the air due to a possible medical emergency. The flight was delayed for around two and a half hours before it resumed its journey and eventually reached Delhi.
These unexpected diversions remind us of the importance of safety and the quick actions taken by flight crews during medical emergencies to protect passengers.
