Elon Musk, the well-known billionaire and CEO of Tesla, seems to have changed his stance on Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform UK party. Farage, a right-wing populist and a close ally of former US President Donald Trump, had previously received Musk's support. However, on Sunday, Musk made a surprising comment on his social media platform, X, saying, “Farage doesn’t have what it takes,” and suggesting that the Reform UK party “needs a new leader.”

This shift in Musk’s position is quite unexpected. Just a few days earlier, Musk had praised Farage and his party, saying that only Reform UK could “save” Britain, and even called for new elections in the country. Farage and Musk had recently met at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where Farage hinted at the possibility of Musk making a financial donation to Reform UK.
Despite this recent support, Musk did not provide any explanation for his sudden change of heart. His critical post came shortly after Farage appeared on a BBC interview earlier that day. In the interview, Farage distanced himself from some of Musk’s controversial comments about UK politicians. Farage acknowledged that Musk is “allowed to have an opinion” but added, “I don’t agree with everything he stands for.”
Farage has also previously opposed Musk’s public support for far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who Musk once called to be freed from prison. However, Farage expressed admiration for Musk, saying, “I do believe in free speech. I think he’s a hero.”
Musk’s recent social media posts have stirred significant controversy in the UK. He accused Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Keir Starmer of being “complicit in the rape of Britain.” Musk also targeted safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, saying she “deserves to be in prison.” These remarks have drawn strong criticism from members of the Labour Party and others in British politics.
This sudden shift in Musk’s views, particularly toward Farage, has left many questioning the reasons behind it. However, for now, Musk has chosen not to clarify his position or elaborate on the fallout with Farage.
