Dubai Health has introduced a new learning program called the Artificial Intelligence Literacy Framework (ALiF). This program is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It is designed to help people in different professions learn how to understand and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their daily work.
This special program was created at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), which is part of Dubai Health. MBRU is known for its focus on education and discovery. The goal of ALiF is to give professionals clear and easy steps to learn about AI, how it works, and how to use it responsibly.

The launch of ALiF was announced during Dubai AI Week 2025, a big event organized by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence. The event is supported by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. This shows how serious Dubai is about becoming a leader in technology and digital learning.
ALiF is made to match both local and global needs. It teaches the basics of AI, helps people think about how to use it in the right way, and shows real-life uses of the technology. At first, the program will focus on important areas like healthcare, education, and research. But later, it will also include other fields.
Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Chief Academic Officer of Dubai Health and Provost at MBRU, explained, “AI is changing the way we live, learn, and care for others. Everyone needs to understand how to use it properly. ALiF helps people feel ready and confident when using AI. We’re proud to start this program in Dubai and help more people become skilled in using digital tools.”
The program starts with something called the AI Launchpad. This is a free online course that teaches the basics of AI and shows how it is used in the real world. After completing this, learners can choose different tracks based on their jobs – such as for students, teachers, doctors, researchers, or office workers. There is also a Strategic AI Leadership course for people who want to lead AI projects in their companies.
All the courses in ALiF are available online, and students can learn at their own speed. The learning is divided into three stages – Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced – and each course comes with a certificate.
Atif AlBraiki, Chief Digital and AI Officer at Dubai Health, said, “We want to make sure AI is used in smart and helpful ways. ALiF gives our workers the skills they need to bring AI into healthcare in a way that really makes a difference.”
Nabil Zary, who leads the Institute of Learning at MBRU, added, “This program isn’t just about learning technical stuff. It helps people build real skills that they can use in their jobs. No matter what your role is, ALiF helps you understand AI and how it fits into your work.”
MBRU has already shown strong leadership in public learning before. For example, during COVID-19, they created the Community Immunity Ambassador program, which helped over a million people learn how to protect their communities.
Now, with ALiF, Dubai Health is helping even more people keep up with technology. This will not only improve the way healthcare works but also help professionals make better decisions and give better care to patients and their families.
In short, ALiF is a big step towards making AI a useful and safe tool for everyone. It supports Dubai’s goal of becoming a global leader in digital skills and smart learning.
