Shostka, Ukraine – A Russian drone strike slammed into a busy railway station in Shostka, Sumy region, injuring at least 30 people, including passengers and railway employees, on Saturday. The attack, described by President Volodymyr Zelensky as “savage,” left train carriages mangled, windows shattered, and fires burning across the platforms.
Shostka, located just 50 kilometers from the Russian border, has witnessed repeated attacks on its transportation infrastructure since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. These strikes have caused disruptions to daily life, with civilians and commuters often caught in the crossfire.

The assault comes as Russia continues targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Overnight strikes in the northern Chernihiv region left around 50,000 households without electricity, highlighting the ongoing strain on civilian life in northern Ukraine.
In retaliation, Ukrainian forces reportedly launched drone attacks on a major oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region. Analysts suggest Kyiv is intensifying long-range strikes against Russian energy facilities to counter repeated assaults on Ukrainian cities and power networks.
The Shostka incident underscores the persistent tension along the Russia-Ukraine border, as civilians remain at risk and both sides escalate their military responses.
