Ukraine Attacks Oil Storage Depot in Russian Border Regions Reservoirs Catches Fire

On Sunday, the governor of Russia's Belgorod region reported a Ukrainian military attack on a fuel storage facility in the Volokonovsky district, near the Russian border. According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, who shared the details on Telegram, the assault involved the use of drones, which led to a series of explosions and fires at the site. Gladkov stated that several reservoirs caught fire, and firefighting crews are currently working to control the blaze. 

In addition to the attack on the fuel depot, Gladkov reported drone strikes on three other localities within the Belgorod region. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from these incidents.

The overnight air attacks have resulted in casualties on both sides of the conflict. Ukrainian officials have reported two deaths and four injuries in the Sumy region as a result of the attacks. The military administration of Sumy confirmed that two children were among the injured, and several homes and vehicles were damaged.

In Belgorod, Gladkov reported that three civilians, including two children, were injured. The attacks also led to the destruction of two residential buildings and damage to more than 15 other structures.

The Russian Defence Ministry stated that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone over Belgorod and another over Kursk, where Ukrainian forces had previously launched a cross-border incursion. The ministry also claimed that two additional drones were intercepted over Belgorod during the night.

These incidents come amid ongoing border region attacks from both Moscow and Kyiv. Each side has accused the other of targeting civilians, though both governments maintain that their attacks are aimed at damaging infrastructure critical to their war efforts.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the conflict has resulted in significant civilian casualties, with thousands of deaths and millions of displaced Ukrainians. The war has left numerous cities and villages in ruins, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
